NAME:  CAITLIN WALSH

1.  What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them?
 -  I know have a greater knowledge of how colour works and what effects this principle can have within design. I now understand and have a greater appreciation to the importance of colour consideration.
- I have gained new knowledge of typography and understand the importance of many features such as counters, legibility, readability, hierarchy, the anatomy etc.
- I understand that how something is written as well as what is written can have a great impact on a audience.
- Realising and utilising methods of grid and layouts has given me structure when considering document layouts. Having this knowledge has helped me to use restriction and measurement to order content to get the best aesthetics for a layout.
- In one of the first sessions when using tracing paper to experiment with type. I think that the impact of simple changes to the weight of a feature with in a letterform has a drastic effect on not only the look of the type but the legibility as well.

2. What approaches to/methods of design production have you developed and how have they informed your design development process?

- When creating the 10things book, i used methods learnt with in the sessions. this apples mainly to the grid and layout sessions, However the choice of type and language did also have an influence.
- when organising a page in these methodical ways when using my own content helped me even more to realise the importance of the way text and image is placed on a page.
- being experimental with the 'Birth of a typeface' brief was very fun and i enjoyed creating existing letterforms into knew. i feel that this has helped me be more inventive as well as ore experimental.

3. What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these?
 - Because I know have a greater understanding of layout and the different methods that can be applied, I feel that i am now able to to create various types of documents that can be understood as well as aesthetically pleasing.
- Having those rules to follow allow me to keep layout work consistent and gives me something to utilise when arranging and displaying text and image.
- I feel that I take more consideration when applying colour to a design. Because i have this new knowledge of the effects certain colours have within a design, I can apply them in a more considered and methodical way.
- gaining knowledge on the different printing processes will certainly aid e in the cuter when printing various pieces of work and will allow me to make the best choices when combining these methods, with layout and stock choice.
- When choosing type to go in a piece of work, I can now make informative decisions on the feel and personality of a typeface as well as the readability and legibility.

4. What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these in the future?
 - (Up until recently) Keeping up to date with my blog - Realising how much work can build up. To avoid this I will try to blog my work and progress as I go therefore the things I am writing up are fresh in my head.
- I don't think i have taken part in enough outside research regarding the design principles module and i feel that this added explanation and example would have helped me to get a better grasp on the subject.
- This would have also allowed me to see how the different methods and processes have been utilised by other designers and practitioners.

5. Identify five things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these?

1 - Keep on top of my blog so I stay unto date with my work and progress. This will also allow more time for the actual experimenting and making of each task.
2 - Draw up more initial ideas because making a commitment to ensure I make the right choices.
3 - Do more research outside of the sessions to get a more informed knowledge of the subject so I can utilise them when applying it to my own work.

5= excellent, 4 = very good, 3 = good, 2 = average, 1 = poor

Attendance = 5

Punctuality = 5
