END OF MODULE SELF-EVALUATION

NAME

Caitlin Walsh

1.     What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them?
I feel that I am now more decisive when it comes to analysing work in depth whether this be somebody else’s work or my own. I can effectively critique work explaining positives, negatives and other aesthetics as I go.
Through the writing of my essay I feel that my research skills have improved a lot and I am more efficient when it comes to finding key, relevant bits of information. Even though I have struggled with y essay at ties I think that I have come through a great learning process that will serve me in good stead when it comes to writing the next one.
I feel that I have become more aware of the history behind the world of Graphic Design as well as other subjects from which Graphic Design has evolved and branched from. I have about the practitioners who have played very important parts in the shifts in graphic design as well as other influences such as war, literacy and culture. I feel that this knowledge has helped me to look at things differently.

2. What approaches to/methods of design production have you developed and how have they informed your design development process?
Applying well-informed knowledge to the aesthetic of a design. Being able to take complex and depth information and displaying it in a way in which a message is received and understood straight away. I feel that being able to do this is a very important tool in being a Graphic Designer and is something, once prompted and decisive, I have been able to use.

3. What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these?
I feel that my academic writing has come on a lot and it is something I want to push further.
I think. I think that my ability to analyse and debate has got better.
I think that certain aesthetics in my final piece work effectively and intrigue the audience into looking at the product. I think my page layouts are effective and display the information in a readable flow.

4. What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these in the future?

I feel that I have worried and debated to much on what it is I should do rather than actually doing it. Due to this my final piece is not up to a suitable standard for me and the outcome is something that I am not that proud of. I feel that my time management skills need to be addressed so I can use my time efficiently so I’m not rushing near the end. I feel that for this project my idea generation has been to sporadic and at time irrelevant, which has also lost me time. I feel that this is due to the great uncertainty I have had through out the whole publication project and only having a clear Idea of what I should do after the last Group Crit has made my work rushed and unprofessional.
One of my middle pages has not lined up at all which was a big disappointment however this is something I would change if I had the time. I feel that my stock choice wasn’t the best in the form of printing even though the contrast does work well.

5. Identify five things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these?

1 Manage my time in between projects more efficiently. This will allow me to use my time more appropriately by sharing the load between projects ensuring I have a level work field.
2. Explore the tools and facilities that are available to me more. This will help to give me more options at my disposal, which will benefit the finishing of my work in the future.
3 Apply more effective idea generation. This will give me more options in the log term ensuring I take the best aesthetic route available.
4 seeking more help from support and tutors around me. Having well informed advise and opinions may be able to help define and idea which would save me struggling in the future.
5 Simple be more organised with my work-load so I can over come it in a methodical way.

The evaluation of your work is an important part of the assessment criteria and represents a percentage of the overall grade. It is essential that you give yourself enough time to complete your written evaluation fully and with appropriate depth and level of self-reflection. If you have any questions relating to the self evaluation process speak to a member of staff as soon as possible.
