NEVER GIVE IN MANIFESTO.
RACHEL CARTER.

This manifesto is for all of us who are seeking to motivate ourselves and survive personally, professionally and creatively in the design industry. When challenges fall across our path, we must find ways to solve them and never give in.

‘It is our attitude at the beginning of a difficult task which more than anything else will affect its successful outcome’ – William James.

Try not to procrastinate, do it later! Make good use of your time, time is the only thing on this earth you cannot buy!

Make decisions and learn to live with the consequences. Never be afraid of making mistakes, valuable lessons can come from the unexpected. Those who never made a mistake never achieved anything.

Remember ‘Failure is natures plan to prepare you for great responsibilities’ – Napoleon Hill.

Your work isn’t the only thing that should communicate well to its audience! Networking is vital in this industry and so is teamwork. Fellow creative’s are great for bouncing ideas off and sharing inspiration, the good, the bad, and the ugly!

Coffee is your friend, not your foe. Make time for you and others; remember it’s not just your screen that needs to be refreshed.

We must feed our imagination, stuff your face with cake and seek wisdom and inspiration from different sources.

Free your mind and think outside of the box, staying inside it will only suffocate you!

Become your own mechanic, explore and consider all tools of the trade. Produce work that’s traditional and digital, keep your creative engine running.

Never underestimate yourself. No idea is too small, big surprises come from little packages. Look at the mustard seed!

Remember, Life is a Rollercoaster. Don’t forget to scream and enjoy the ride!

‘It’s not what happens to you that will determined how far you will go in life, it’s how you handle what happens to you’ – Zig Ziglar.

GO, jump on the escalator, survive the elements and succeed.
Never give in!

INCOMPLETE MANIFESTO.
BRUCE MAU.
  1. You have to be willing to grow. Growth is different from something that happens to you. You produce it. You live it. The prerequisites for growth: the openness to experience events and the willingness to be changed by them.
  2. Forget about good.
Good is a known quantity. Good is what we all agree on. Growth is not necessarily good. Growth is an exploration of unlit recesses that may or may not yield to our research. As long as you stick to good you’ll never have real growth.
  3. Process is more important than outcome.
When the outcome drives the process we will only ever go to where we’ve already been. If process drives outcome we may not know where we’re going, but we will know we want to be there.
  4. Love your experiments (as you would an ugly child). Joy is the engine of growth. Exploit the liberty in casting your work as beautiful experiments, iterations, attempts, trials, and errors. Take the long view and allow yourself the fun of failure every day.
  5. Go deep.
The deeper you go the more likely you will discover something of value.
  6. Capture accidents.
The wrong answer is the right answer in search of a different question. Collect wrong answers as part of the process. Ask different questions.
  7. Study.
A studio is a place of study. Use the necessity of production as an excuse to study. Everyone will benefit.
  8. Drift.
Allow yourself to wander aimlessly. Explore adjacencies. Lack judgment. Postpone criticism.
  9. Begin anywhere.
John Cage tells us that not knowing where to begin is a common form of paralysis. His advice: begin anywhere.
  10. Everyone is a leader.
Growth happens. Whenever it does, allow it to emerge. Learn to follow when it makes sense. Let anyone lead.
  11. Harvest ideas.
Edit applications. Ideas need a dynamic, fluid, generous environment to sustain life. Applications, on the other hand, benefit from critical rigor. Produce a high ratio of ideas to applications.
  12. Keep moving.
The market and its operations have a tendency to reinforce success. Resist it. Allow failure and migration to be part of your practice.
  13. Slow down.
Desynchronize from standard time frames and surprising opportunities may present themselves.
  14. Don’t be cool.
Cool is conservative fear dressed in black. Free yourself from limits of this sort.
  15. Ask stupid questions.
Growth is fueled by desire and innocence. Assess the answer, not the question. Imagine learning throughout your life at the rate of an infant.

WHERE I STAND.
POLITICALLY, SOCIALLY, HISTORICALLY & CULTURALLY.
MY MANIFESTO.

POLITICAL.
I have very mixed opinions about politics today. On one hand i feel that in our country we are very lucky to have a political system like we do. We have multiple parties giving variations to the public allowing choice. We are all equal and have the right to vote, which is something that can be a rare commodity around the world. All votes ave valid and taken and fairness is the greatest priority when doing so.
However this positiveness has been over-shadowed greatly in recent times through scandal, obstructions and un-relatability. I don't understand how a hooked hand, convicted terrorist has the right to stay and live comfortably within this country while a born and bread British citizen has to buy the right to have a family with in the country they have been a part of and have worked hard for. I don't understand how having a child at a young age out side of a relationship is now seen as a way of living due to the huge benefits this can have to a woman while a woman in education working hard to improve herself and contribute to this society has to struggle to prove her and her relationship is genuine. This is just one example of many political situations I just simply don't understand. Politicians today are completely out of the loop when it comes to understanding the everyday public today. most of the time I feel as though most politicians today lack common sense.

SOCIETY.
First of all I feel that people in this country are extremely lucky to belong to such a great country. Many people in todays society are very closed minded contradictory to many modern opinions. People in the UK today are very quick to complain about what is wrong when we are part of a very few minority that actually have everything they need and more to live a very satisfied life. Luxuries such as the NHS, Compensation and Health & safety are systems in place that most people around the world can only dream of, however people today feel the need to undermine such privileges. I do believe that there are many many positives with-in our society such as the accepting of people from different origins, races and cultures as well as facilities to aid and support those in need. The education system in place in our society provides incredible opportunities for everyone, yet I feel that this importance is not instilled with in young people to day as much as it should.  However at this point in time I feel that too many don't realise  all the goodness and freedoms we are provided with. What has been put n place for us in society is not being fulfilled and utilised enough. Education and discipline is key.

HISTORICAL.
I believe that awareness of what has been and gone in history gives and appreciation for what we have today as a nation. Education depicting the good and the bad events that have occurred through out history give us something to depend and reflect decision to be made int the present and the future which, to me, can only be a good thing. History brought about the development with in industry and education which is continuously allowing us as individuals to grow and adapt to the world around us. It is known that many stories base on on historical events can be discussed and promoted in a bias way and this is something that should be correct while current issues play out. Certain beliefs originating in history can aid people in the current struggles today, However I do believe there are many beliefs to day that do not belong in modern society. Beliefs such as forced marriage, under-aged marriage and discrimination of race and gender are no longer suitable with in a society such as that in Britain.

CULTURAL.
Discovering new things with in other cultures other than our own can be fun, educational and beneficial to our own being. This and be done, and has been done successfully through arts and food. Bringing different cultures together with in society can build bridges and friendship but this can only be achieved through education. Mis-inturpretation of certain beliefs and cultural activity can lead to suspicion and segregation. however were 'outsiders' need to be considered and accepted by society, 'new-comers' need to abide and respect the beliefs of the society they wish to join. I believe the media should be more cautious about language used when discussing certain religions as mass media is an extremely influential tool. For example, I don't believe terrorists should be so accociated with the Islamic religion because they do not follow Islamic religion. However attacking Islam constantly in the news build negative stereotype to a religion that  is just as peaceful as any other.
