10 things.... - Other Practitioners (OUGD404)

OUGD404
DESIGN PRINCIPLES
OTHER PRACTITIONERS.

NEASDEN CONTROL CENTRE - Specialises in sporadic layouts and Hand rendered type. Crude yet stylised. Does not rely on a machine, everything is natural.

NEWWORK MAGAZINE - Very simplistic, not overwhelming. Has very structured layouts that are complimented by positive and negative space as all as type. Very design lead and identifiable. Simple yet elegant with a very clever use of space.

NOZINE MAGAZINE - Strong colours with illustrational design as well as digital. Strong structured layouts with play on typography and body text. A mix of style to create one style. Pages in a double page spread can differ sternly to each other. They have a colour scheme for each issue.

WALKER EVENS - Very photographic nature with a structure layout that conforms heavily to a grid format. I like the small sash that keeps the publication closed and also lines up wit the title on the front cover.

14 YEARS 41 LOGOS - I really like the limited black and white colour scheme used in this book. i feel that the combination of this and the bold, simple and gridded layout enhances the straight forward display of logos.

INDEX - DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD

BENCH LI

The spaced arrangement of the layout here works very well. i like how each of the sections are accompanied with an image and how the designer has used quite a structured grid, yet in appearance the page looks relaxed and simple. i also like how the word index has been split to match the effect of the images. The fact that this page does not have a border also enhanced the spaced out feel.

DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD

i really like the uniform pages through out this book. the fact that each page follows the same rigid layout  gives a great sense of order. i think that the negative space used draws you eye toward the content and even though text and image overlap, the minimal colour helps keep the page form appearing cluttered. The use of a vivid red adds and appealing accent. i also like the lager characters numbering each page.

VARIOUS INSTRUCTION BOOKS

A5 FORMAT

BRAUN KUNDENDIENST - 1956

Even though i feel the colours used here appear a bit garish i The use of a simple and structured layout counteracts this making the instruction stand out. i like how the cover stock differs from the body of the book and this is something i want to consider when creating my own 10 things publication.

TOUCH

PETER DEKENS

I like this alternative format to a book publication and i fell that this would be an interesting concept to work with for my 10things publication. i also like the vivid colours using with in the concertina style booklet. I like the idea of having a decorative sash to keep the book neatly closed. i also think that this kind of feature may allow me to add and interesting front cover.

I like the textbook feel this front cover has and I also think that the binding method used is very appealing. the simple use of coloured stock paired with simple, minimal type and layout gives a sense of structure as well as directness.
